The Union québécoise de réhabilitation des oiseaux de proie (UQROP) will be using a modular steel trellis from the original Champlain Bridge to replace the current bridge to Chouette à voir! As part of its materials recovery program, the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) is happy to partner with UQROP in order to reuse a piece of the bridge. With a donation to the Your name on the bridge fundraising campaign, you will have the opportunity to place your name on one of the pieces of the original Champlain Bridge… soon to be at Chouette à Voir!
On the sidelines of the deconstruction of the original Champlain Bridge, JCCBI has set up a major material recovery program aimed in particular at integrating the steel trellises used to strengthen the Champlain Bridge in municipal or corporate projects. In order to respect its conservation mission and its sustainable development objectives, UQROP decided to seize this opportunity.
Starting in the Autumn of 2021, UQROP will build an interpretation center to open Chouette à voir! year round. The current bridge restricts the arrival of the many trucks needed in the event of a fire at the future interpretation center. For this reason, the existing bridge must be replaced in order to complete the construction of the center.
Bridge replacement work, including the abutments, is estimated to cost $1.2 million. The Government of Canada and other governmental partners contribute in part to funding this work. UQROP therefore needs your business and the involvement of the population to achieve its goal.
The goal of the Your Name on Bridge campaign is to raise $300,000 in donations from private partners. It offers individuals, families, groups of friends, groups of coworkers, and businesses the opportunity to display their name on the new bridge for a period of 10 years. Donations are eligible for a tax receipt. Want to do your part? Just go to the UQROP website.
The UQROP thanks you in advance, because with all of your help, Chouette à Voir! will have a new bridge to celebrate its 25th anniversary!
