Spring

As spring arrives, Haut-Saint-Laurent comes alive with the first rays of sun and the start of maple season. A traditional sugar shack meal is a culinary and cultural experience in one, and perfect to share with your partner, family or friends. Visit one of the area’s seven sugar shacks to get the most out of this time of year. The first harvests of the season are also in early spring. The region’s many producers will be happy to welcome you to their farms and introduce you to their products.

Summer

The Haut-Saint-Laurent region is a just perfect playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can’t get enough of the bicycle circuits, hiking trails and kayaking tours on the rivière Châteauguay. Every year, this tourist destination hosts three of the province’s longest-running agricultural fairs: the Expo Ormstown, Huntingdon Fair and Havelock Fair. All three serve as opportunities to learn about the region’s agricultural heritage and see farm animals up close while enjoying rides, games and special attractions. Summer is also the time to pick your own berries at farms nearby. What goes better with a picnic of local flavours than fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries?

To take in the autumn scenery, the view from the top of Covey Hill is well worth the climb. With 13 orchards along the way, the Haut-Saint-Laurent region is definitely a destination to visit or revisit this season. Plan to stop in at a local gourmet boutique, where apples, pumpkins and squash are made into irresistible treats.
