SOCIÉTÉ D’HISTOIRE DE LA PRAIRIE-DE-LA-MAGDELEINE
The proposed experience
The La Prairie-de-la-Magdeleine Historical Society was created in 1972 with the purpose of safeguarding the unique historical character of Vieux-La Prairie. This action led to the creation of the historic district of Vieux-La Prairie in 1975. La Prairie played a strategic role in the defence of Montréal by building a pile palisade wall from 1687 to 1689. The town also stands out in the trade network. The parish, created in 1692, is one of the oldest in the Montréal region. Immerse yourself in history with our guides in period costumes and explore the perimeter of the old La Prairie fort, visit the interior of the Church of La Nativité and its crypt.
