LIEU HISTORIQUE NATIONAL DE COTEAU-DU-LAC
The proposed experience
Located southwest of Montreal, along the St. Lawrence River, this national historic site features Canada’s first lock-and-channel system and the ruins of a former military fort. Used for millennia by Indigenous peoples as a portage route and campsite, it has also played an important role in the country’s military and commercial history. A marked trail dotted with interpretive panels allows visitors to explore nearly 7,000 years of history. The self-guided outdoor tour invites visitors to reflect, relax, and enjoy a picnic in a peaceful natural setting. Interpretive activities are offered at certain times; check the website for details.
